Who we are

Chef Fatty LLC (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates www.cheffatty.com (the “Site”). This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

By using the Site, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

What we collect

Information you give us

• Email address, display name, and password (or OAuth identity from Google, Apple, or Facebook) when you create an account.
• Payment and billing details when you purchase a membership or cookbook. Card data is collected and stored by Stripe, not by us. We receive a Stripe customer ID, the last four digits of your card, and billing zip code for receipts.
• Optional profile data: dietary preferences, default serving size, saved recipes, shopping list items, and recipe reviews you post.
• Messages you send us through our contact form or email.

Information collected automatically

• Device and connection data: IP address, browser type, operating system, referring page, and pages viewed.
• Usage data: recipes viewed, clicks, search terms, time on page, and interaction with site features.
• Session recordings via PostHog, which capture how users move through the Site. Text you type into forms is masked, and password fields are never captured.
• Cookies and similar technologies (see “Cookies” below).

Information from third parties

• When you sign in with Google, Apple, or Facebook, we receive your email, name, profile photo (if public), and the provider’s user ID. Apple may provide a private relay email.
• When you complete a purchase, Stripe sends us the payment status and subscription state.

How we use your information

• Provide the Site and the services you request (recipes, membership, cookbook access, saved items, shopping lists).
• Process payments and manage subscriptions.
• Send transactional emails (invites, receipts, password resets, review moderation, trial expiration notices).
• Send marketing emails, which you can opt out of at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email.
• Understand how the Site is used so we can improve it.
• Detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, or security issues.
• Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.

Service providers we share data with

We share personal information with the service providers listed below only as needed to run the Site. We do not sell your personal information.

• Supabase: database, authentication, and file storage.
• Vercel: website hosting and request logging.
• Stripe: payment processing, subscription billing, and customer portal.
• PostHog: product analytics and session replay.
• Resend: transactional email delivery.
• Kit (ConvertKit): newsletter and marketing email delivery.
• Google, Apple, Facebook: OAuth sign-in providers (only when you choose to use them).
• Amazon Associates: when you click an affiliate link, Amazon receives standard referral information.
• Google AdSense and advertising partners: if and when we run ads, these partners may set cookies or collect device identifiers to serve and measure ads. See Google’s policies at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.

We may also disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or other legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Chef Fatty LLC, our users, or others.

Cookies and tracking

We and our service providers use cookies, localStorage, and similar technologies for:

• Essential: authentication tokens that keep you signed in.
• Analytics: PostHog identifiers used to understand site usage.
• Attribution: a small amount of data stored in your browser to track which marketing campaign referred you.
• Advertising: if ads are served, advertising partners may set their own cookies.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies will sign you out and may break parts of the Site. You can also opt out of personalized advertising at aboutads.info/choices and youronlinechoices.eu.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you.
• Correct inaccurate information.
• Delete your account and associated data.
• Export a copy of your data.
• Opt out of marketing emails (use the unsubscribe link, or email us).
• Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (California residents). We do not sell personal information, but certain advertising cookies may qualify as “sharing” under the CCPA. You can opt out by contacting us.
• Object to or restrict certain processing (EU and UK residents under GDPR).

To exercise any of these rights, email charles@cheffatty.com from the address on your account. We will respond within the time frames required by applicable law.

Data retention

We keep account and transaction data for as long as your account is active, and for a reasonable period after closure to meet tax, accounting, and legal obligations (generally up to seven years for financial records). Analytics data is retained for up to 24 months. You can request deletion at any time.

Security

We use commercially reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit, access controls, and reputable infrastructure providers. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children’s privacy

The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

International users

Chef Fatty LLC is based in the United States, and your information will be processed in the United States. If you access the Site from outside the U.S., you consent to the transfer and processing of your information in the U.S.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date above indicates when the most recent change was made. Material changes will be communicated by email or through a notice on the Site.
